Blood Born, Book Four of the Guardians Series by Rayanne Haines

After Olivia Dawson died her life really started to suck.

The week before Olivia Dawson died, everything changed. Her little publishing house that could started pumping out best-sellers. A mysterious uncle passed away, leaving her a penthouse loft looking over Central Park. And her experimental cancer treatments finally seemed to be working. Who could’ve known that after her death life would literally suck.

She could do without craving her sexy new sire’s blood and the fact that her death had been rather brutal, thank you very much. Now, the shadows that go bump in the night were calling her the Vessel, bowing at her feet, expecting her to fulfill a prophecy. And wasn’t that a lot to live up to. Still, Olivia had a bad feeling that if she didn’t take them up on the offer, she’d soon find herself deader than dead.

Rhys Callas has ambitions. He’d been raised to rule. Had plans to free his people from living in the shadows. He wasn’t called the King of New York because he played nice. Now with the help of the guardians and the vessel he’d soon be the leader of the North American vampires. All he had to do was find an assassin, keep the other vampire factions at bay, keep the guardian Domhall Taleisin out of his hair, and keep Miss Olivia Dawson undead long enough to woo her. Best laid plans, right?

Soon enough Rhys and Olivia find out fighting for her undead life could mean the difference between a real future or oblivion for the entire vampire race.ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Midnight Temptation (Ravens Hollow Coven Book 2) by Shari Nichols

When tarot card reader Gillian Howe hosts a supernatural speed dating event, she’s hopeful to discover her chance at love. Making the perfect match is her passion. Too bad she can’t find one for herself. A chance encounter with a wealthy vampire soon finds her plunged into a secret society of trancing, blood bonds, and human escort rings. She’ll need help to survive, but the vampire detective is the last person she wants...even if he is scorching hot.

Garrett Mulroney has dealt with his share of the supernatural. His sire tried to force him into a life of debauchery, but he chose to uphold the law. The fact that the one woman he can’t seem to get out of his lust-filled dreams is at the center of his investigation doesn’t bode well. It's a good thing she hates his guts, because it helps douse his growing desire for her and focus on the case. But when Gillian’s cousin is kidnapped into the Du Sang Brotherhood, she becomes the prime witness.

Now they’re forced to put their differences aside and go undercover by pretending to be a couple. The more time they spend together, the more Garrett wants her in his life—and in his bed. Will they be able to develop the love and trust needed to take down the Brotherhood or become its next victim?

OTHER BOOKS
I'm proud of HAUNTED because it won the Beverley award, and was a HOLT medallion finalist and a Golden Leaf finalist in two categories.

MIDNIGHT DESIRE is the first book in the Raven's Hollow coven series. I developed the Magickal Bureau of Investigations and the world of witches, demons and vampires that coexist with humans. All of the relationships between the couples and friends were developed in this world. Readers will see characters overarching within the series.

MIDNIGHT TEMPTATION, book two in the series, is near and dear to my heart. It's loosely based on my grandfather's struggle to flee Europe after he awoke at his funeral and emerged from his coffin.

About the Author

I live with my husband of 25 years (Mark, below right) in a leafy Sacramento, California suburb, in a little yellow house with a brick fireplace and a couple pink flamingoes out front.

I’ve always occupied the space between the here and now and the what could be. Indoctrinated into fantasy and sci fi by my mother at the tender age of nine, I devoured her library. But as I grew up and read the golden age classics and more modern works as well, I began to wonder where all the people like me were.

After I came out at twenty three, I decided that it was time to create the kinds of stories I couldn’t find at Waldenbooks. If there weren’t many gay characters in my favorite genres, I would reimagine them myself, populating them with a diverse universe of characters. I would subvert them and remake them to my own ends. And if I was lucky enough, someone else would want to read the things I wrote.

My friends say my brain works a little differently – I sees relationships between things that others miss, and get more done in a day than most folks manage in a week. Although I was born an introvert, I learned to reach outside himself and connect with others like me.

I write stories that subvert expectations, that seek to transform traditional sci fi, fantasy, and contemporary worlds into something new and unexpected. I also run both Queer Sci Fi and QueeRomance Ink with my husband Mark, sites that bring people like us together to promote and celebrate fiction that reflects our own reality.
Scott and Mark
My writing, whether romance or genre fiction (or a little bit of both) brings a queer energy to my stories, infusing them with love, beauty and power and making them soar. I imagine a world that could be, and in the process, maybe changes the world that is, just a little.

I was recognized as one of the top new gay authors in the 2017 Rainbow Awards, and my debut novel “Skythane” received two awards and an honorable mention. Since that time, I have published six other novels and several other novellas.
In August, 2019, I qualified to join the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America with my sale of “Across the Transom” to Galaxy’s Edge Magazine, and in March 2020 I became a full member.

New Release: The Girl Who Adored Rembrandt, by Belle Ami

Thank you, Sharon for sharing my new time-travel thriller on you your blog!

The Out of Time series began with my #1 bestseller The Girl Who Knew da Vinci and introduced my heroine Angela Renatus and her “easy to fall in love with hero” Alex Caine to readers. I followed up with my, thank you again readers, #1 bestseller The Girl Who Loved Caravaggio and I’ve found myself on this miraculous journey of writing a series I personally love to write.

My next book The Girl Who Adored Rembrandt, is up for pre-order on Amazon. I’m over the moon with excitement to continue Angela and Alex’s journey through time and history. In the meantime, you can catch up with my romantic thrilling Out of Time series from the beginning, The Girl Who Knew da Vinci (Book 1 in the Out of Time Thriller Series) and The Girl Who Loved Caravaggio (Book 2 in the Out of Time Thriller Series) are multi-award winning books that transport readers to the Renaissance era.

ABOUT THE BOOK: In a vision, art historian and time-traveling psychic detective Angela Renatus, witnesses the theft of a Rembrandt painting from the home of a powerful San Francisco couple—before the heist takes place. Powerless to stop it, all Angela can do is warn the owners of the possible danger. When the break-in takes place a month later, Angela is shocked when she learns the heist also involved a murder.

Now, a suspect in the double crime, Angela must clear her name with the help of her fiancĂ©, art detective Alex Caine, by her side. Together, they risk life and limb to search for the masterpiece stolen by a Mexican drug cartel. Disturbing visions and dreams plague Angela dragging her back into the past. What is she missing among the clues that would explain her trepidations—about Rembrandt, his art, and his family? Does the truth dwell in the shadows of the past? And can Angela survive the journey?

EXCERPT
Tiburon, California
Present day
January 12, 2:20 a.m.

Angela Renatus thrashed and moaned, caught in a violent nightmare, her sweating body soaking the sheets. Her fingers clenched and tore at the satiny cotton beneath her.

“No!”

She bolted upright, choking.

Can’t breathe…

The room spun around her, and she fell back on the pillow.

“Angela?” Alex’s groggy voice penetrated the fog in her brain. “Baby, I’m here.” He gathered her into his strong arms—she opened her eyes to the face of the man she loved. She stared up into his uniquely different-colored eyes of hazel and pale blue. The same eyes that had loved her throughout multiple lifetimes. The sleep was gone from his voice, and his face was etched with concern.

She dug her nails into his muscled arms as she struggled to drag air into her lungs. It was always this way.

“Breathe…That’s it…Again…Good. I’ve got you.”

“Alex…”

“It’s a dream. You had a bad dream.”

“No—more than a dream.” Her arrhythmic heartbeat began to slow. The calming effect of Alex.

“Okay. Tell me what happened.”

She realized her nails had broken his skin and drawn blood. She released her death grip on him. “I saw it again. Just like the last time at the Argyles, but this time it was clearer. I saw the beginning and the end.”

The dream was a repeat of a waking vision she’d experienced a few months at the home of a wealthy investment banker and his lawyer wife. Just like the Caravaggio in Palermo, she’d witnessed the heist of a priceless masterpiece.

“Are you talking about the vision of the Rembrandt being stolen?”

She nodded. It was too terrible to repeat.

“Did you see the thieves? Their faces?”

“Not all of them. I saw the leader. I recognized him, but I don’t know from where… And he could see me.”

“What do you mean he could see you?”

“For maybe ten seconds we stared at each other. The thief was as shocked as I was. He must have thought I was a ghost.”

“Do you think it was a premonition of something that’s going to happen? Or could he be someone you knew in a past life?”

“I don’t know. It seemed so real. So immediate. There were no clues as to how I might have known him, just this strange sense of familiarity.”

Alex glanced at his watch. “It’s nearly three in the morning. We’re both wasted from the flight. Do you want to talk about it now? If you do, we’re going to need some caffeine.”

She caressed his face, smoothing the lines of fatigue. “It seems I have a habit of stealing your sleep.” She forced a smile. “It can wait until tomorrow. If you hold me, I think I might be able to fall back asleep.”

“Holding you is what keeps my demons at bay and what most of my dreams are made of.” His lips brushed her forehead, and a sense of peace washed over her. She didn’t need to see it written in the stars—Alex Caine was her soulmate. He was her past, present, and future—her destiny. They’d loved and lost each other over multiple lifetimes…multiple reincarnations. She suspected there were many more yet to be revealed.

“Seeing the past is one thing—I’ve begun to accept it. But, seeing the future, events that haven’t happened yet…” She shook her head. “I don’t want to know about the future.”

“Neither do I. But I don’t think our future will be revealed to you. Maybe what you see only relates to dead painters and art heists,” he joked.

“Then you do think the painting is going to be stolen.”

“I don’t know. I’ll call the Argyles in the morning. We’ll see if they listen to reason and heed your warning. As I recall, they weren’t too keen on your prophecy last time.”

Angela rolled her eyes. “You mean the fact that Peter Argyle escorted us out of the house as if we were criminals? As I recall, your mother also questioned my sanity.”

“Peter and my mother are wrong. You don’t fit into their belief system, so they question everything about you. They can’t begin to see your gifts…but I do, Angela. You have what few people possess—you’ve been given the ability to break the rules and see beyond the dimensionality of one lifetime. The way you brave whatever is thrown at you is amazing. Your purpose is to seek the truth, and mine is to protect you from whatever danger lies ahead. I may not have your vision, baby, but I have your back.”

What have I done to deserve this man?
The truth was, she knew. They’d paid dearly in lifetime after lifetime to earn the right to be together. A part of her wished she could walk away from the visions and the dreams and convince Alex to give up being an art detective. The dangerous situations they were continuously thrown into, threatened their lives. She sometimes wondered if she should convince Alex to take up the reins of Crawford Oil, his family’s oil company. It would make his mother the happiest woman on Earth. There was nothing wrong with wanting a normal life, was there? A life safe from visions, nightmares, and criminals. It was something to consider for the future and for their children’s future. She snuggled against him, her fingers toying with his silky chest hair. “I think I’m the luckiest woman in the world.”

“Really? Why’s that?”

“Because the man I love, the man I’m going to marry, is brave, devoted, and believes in me.”

Alex’s eyes flashed mischievously. “You want something, don’t you?”

Moi? What could I possibly want?” Doesn’t he have any idea what his arms around me and the heat of his body do to me? He must know he’s the only thing I want, the only thing I need.“Yeah, you do. You want me to make mad passionate love to you.”

“And how do you know that?” She lowered her lashes so he couldn’t see the truth of his words.

He pulled her deeper into his embrace. “Because you’re biting your lower lip, and it turns me on, and you know it. I can’t tear my eyes away from your mouth when you do that.”

“Are you accusing me of purposefully manipulating you into copulation?” She giggled at the word that couldn’t begin to describe what making love with Alex Caine was like.

“Sorta. You’re doing it now.” His gaze was pinned on her mouth.

Her lips quivered. “Now you’re making me self-conscious.” She loved it when they flirted. It turned her on when he slow-danced her to ecstasy. The truth was, after a nightmare, she wanted—no needed—to feel her physical body. And nothing made her feel it more than Alex making love to her.

“We can’t have that. We need to relax those lips. In fact, what we need to do is relax your whole body.” He rolled on top of her. “Hmm, how’s that?” His lips lingered on her ear. His breath wet and warm, kindled her desire, making her pulse race. She ran her hands over the muscles in his back, arching against him, feeding his fire. “This is what happens when you wake me in the middle of the night. It’s your just dessert,” he murmured, his warm breath tickling her ear.

“I think you’d better capitalize on this moment before your dessert melts.” She knew it was an invitation her big, bad, Navy SEAL, couldn’t refuse.

“Nothing better than melted Angela.”

New Release: Gator Me Twice by RL Merrill

Newly mated Layla and Garrett are diligently practicing their baby-making skills—until Baba Yaga pops in with a dire warning. A magical storm is brewing, and when it causes a supernatural communication breakdown, the water witch and her alpha mate will have to defeat ghosts from their past, their own insecurities, and a childhood nightmare come to life.

Bring on the babies, bad jokes and boogiemen in this third Shifted story in the Magic and Mayhem Universe.

Excerpt

Layla went about her business learning all she could from Marge and B-man, as well as Edna and Bessie Chouette, the owl Shifter twins. She spent time with Garrett’s cousin Clarabelle, studying herbs and their healing powers. She practiced on Clarabelle’s man, Johann. Him being a ghoul and all, he could take a lot of magic without it hurting him. He was also very patient…like right now.

“You’re not going to hurt me, Layla. Just do it.”

Layla closed her eyes and took a deep, cleansing breath.

Goddess on high, hear my plea
I need a favor
For a friend, you seeJohann’s still struggling
And I think we agree
His life will be more pleasant
To some degree
If we can heal
This gator filigree
I ask this of thee, humbly

Here goes nothing…

Layla pulled on that magical pool of light within her and concentrated it on Johann’s chest. He’d been having some pains where a gator had sliced him open, so Layla was practicing her micro spell work. Marge had been trying to teach her the delicacy of such spells, but Layla was afraid to do it on anyone for fear of scarring.

“Am I interrupting?”

Layla was startled by the flash of light and sudden exposure to way too much neon spandex.

It’s good to see you, Baba Yaga.

“Oh, girl, call me Carol. We’re going to be equals soon, so you’d better get used to it.”

Layla froze. What are you talking about?

Johann made a strangled sound and scrambled to button up his shirt. “I’m, uh, just going to go find Clarabelle,” he said as he stumbled over a planter bed in Clarabelle’s garden.

“Good to see you, Johann.”

Johann scurried back into the house.

“He’s such a cutie,” Carol said, wiggling her eyebrows. “I’d have been all over him, you know, if it wasn’t for Fabio—”

What?

“Oh, you’re right. He’s a bit young for me. But I tell you, if I’d have been single when I met him, Gator Girl would have had a fight on her hands.”

She winked, and Layla knew she was just being her crazy Baba Yaga self.

He lets me practice on him, says I can’t hurt him. I haven’t hurt anyone since we came to the Bayou, but I’m still afraid.

“And that, my girl, is precisely why I’m here. I know you’re still learning, and I hate to put any more pressure on you, but we’re on a bit of a time schedule now.”

How do you mean? Layla sensed a sudden ominous mood about Baba Yaga that she wasn’t used to.

“With my sister getting knocked up, and some rumors going around that your former nemesis is making noises from the other side…we just need to speed things up, my dear.”

Layla tried not to freak out, but maybe some of her dark feelings lately were because she, too, had been feeling a sense of urgency.

What do you need me to do?

~♥~♥~♥~♥~ An Excerpt from Dare to Hope:
His grin was devastating up close – wide and welcoming, with a hint of naughtiness and the promise of shared pleasures. But it was his eyes, deep coffee brown and fringed with long dark lashes that were his best feature; piercing, intelligent and inquisitive eyes, trained on her.
Please, God, Eliana prayed quickly, do not let this man be the new sales manager. It would be lamentable if she had to keep him at arm's length. He was the first man Eliana had felt drawn to since Nico. If she was honest with herself, he was the first man she had ever felt this attracted to so immediately. It was enough to make her believe in love at first sight or fate.
"Hi," he stepped closer, ignoring the empty stool beside her to halt just inside her personal space. Usually, Eliana would have reflexively backed up, but she savored his closeness, the power emanating from his presence. Even in this stuffy bar, he smelled good – fresh, like soap and good whiskey. And up close, his eyes were more magical – a hint of gold dancing in their depths.
"Hi," she responded on a breath, letting the single word hang there for a moment before adding "You aren't in sales, are you?"
"Nope." If he thought it was a strange conversation starter, he kept it to himself. "Engineering and design, although I have dabbled in sales. I could be in sales for you," he offered in a voice smooth as brandy, redolent with sexual promise and a hint of curiosity. She laughed at his offer. "Are you in sales?"
"Yes, I am. I was thinking of what a crime it would be if you turned out to be my new boss. I'm meeting him tomorrow."
"Jeremy," he responded, extending his hand to shake hers. "Not in sales. Is your boss named Jeremy?"
"Thankfully, not." Eliana extended her hand, savoring the moment as Jeremy wrapped his long fingers around hers. She noticed there was no wedding band as she admired the strength and length of his fingers, the fine hairs on the back of his hand, and his grip - warm and dry. His skin was soft over fine bone and healthy muscle. Everything about him captivated her. "Eliana."
Jeremy seemed in no hurry to release her hand, but after several beats too long for politeness, Eliana pulled hers from his. "Is this seat taken?" he asked, already sitting down, not thinking twice about it. "Or perhaps that table against the wall? I am anxious to learn why you don't know who you work with, Eliana."
Eliana laughed and watched as Jeremy's breath stopped. His every emotion was transparent, especially the desire flaming in his eyes right now. A passion she reciprocated. Wholeheartedly. She couldn't remember such an instantaneous attraction. But with Jeremy, she felt electricity and lust move through her entire body, just from the touch of his hand and the sound of her name spoken in his rich baritone.
"Eliana," he rolled the word around his mouth as if tasting a fine wine. "What a lovely name." Eliana panties dampened. He was just saying words, but their underlying promise was undeniable. She wanted to be alone with him. She wanted to be naked with him. And all she knew was his first name.
Eliana nodded toward the table, questioning her sanity. She was sure about what this man wanted, but after only minutes, her body governed her head. Jeremy spoke briefly with the bartender, passed him a fifty like it was a single, and motioned for her to lead the way to the empty table. Before they had settled in their chairs, both had fresh drinks. Earlier, the bartender had responded to her beauty with decent service and half-hearted flirting, but he reacted with alacrity to the big tip.
"So, spill," Jeremy directed, leaning forward on his elbows and putting his mouth dangerously close to hers. Just a few inches, Eliana imagined, and they could be kissing. "I am dying to hear your story. I want to know absolutely everything about you." The way he lingered on the word 'everything' made Eliana wetter still. Oh man, she was in way over her head.
